It was May 3rd, 2018. We were on a weekend getaway with all the family. Hector Hugo, who was 13 then, was feeling dizzy, with some headache and lost of balance. We thought those symptoms had to do with car travel sickness. When we were back, he was feeling worse. We took him to his pediatrician who, asked us for some studies & tests to be made.

It was then when we first heard the diagnose, DIPG. Difuse intrinsic pontine glioma. A cancerous tumor not suitable for surgery, because of its location and since it’s tangled around very important sections of the base of the brain.

We couldn’t believe it. The most demanding and exhaustive experience of our lives just started: search for treatments, infromation about the disease and patient care, and also, acceptance and strength.

It’s been over 10 months, Hector Hugo has received 10 chemos, 25 radiotherapy sessions, 5 surgeries in the brain, and other procedures in the digestive system to help him stay nurtured and even prevent heartburns since that can cause him a neumonia.

The tumor prevents the brain to send right signals to perform some basic functions of the body, and therefore Hector Hugo’s body has resented this.

He has been in the hospital for more than 150 days. He’s fighting back, and doctors are happy about his progress. He wants to keep fighting.

He faces his treatments bravely and barely complains. He keeps and undescribable peace within him.

We want to keep fighting but we’re running out of funds. That’s why we’ve created this site.
